Peace, Zanotelli’s intervention: “We must have the courage of disobedience, like the last generation. We have to go to prison”

“Guns are used to defend those who have them. Last year $2.24 trillion was spent on guns, but are we crazy? So father Alex Zanotelli in an excerpt from his speech at the Peace Builders initiative in Assisi on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. “We apologize for our silence, but I do not believe that we will be able to be effective as peacemakers. Today it is as expensive to make peace as to wage war. We have to have the courage to understand it and do like the last generation and go to prison. We must get used to civil disobedience, otherwise we face death and catastrophe.”
