New York police have arrested a woman who was caught stealing presents from under Robert De Niro’s Christmas tree at the actor’s apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The 30-year-old woman, who was known to police from a number of previous arrests for burglary, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning.
Some officers saw the suspect enter the basement of the building around 2:45 a.m. local time, found signs of forced entry and caught her trying to steal some items. AND as Arthur Tsui, spokesman for the New York Police Department, reports.
According to ABC News, the woman was putting presents in a bag under the Christmas tree and De Niro, 79, was home at the time and came downstairs after hearing the commotion.
Stan Rosenfield, the actor’s spokesman, declined to comment on the incident, but said the attempted theft occurred in an apartment temporarily rented to the Manhattan-born and raised Oscar-winning star of “Raging Bull.” .
