In the holiday month par excellence, Trenitalia offers a new carriage with a reduced environmental impact, entirely dedicated to cyclists and families.
By June 2023, the entire Intercity Giorno fleet will actually have one wagon with six bicycle parking spaces, electric charging stations, separate waste disposal and the family area.
On board, passengers will also find the first seats made of fabrics made from yarns made from recycled plastic, the manufacture of which allows a saving of 32% CO2, 94% water and 64% energy per kg of yarn. A sustainable choice that will also be repeated for the seats of the next intercity hybrid trains between the cities of the Ionian coast.
There are also messages on CO2 savings on train journeys in the carriage.
Added to this is the publication in the Official Gazette of the call for tenders for 370 new night coaches, guaranteed at least 70, for the renewal of the intercity night coaches to and from the south, with a minimum economic value of 140 million euros, which Trenitalia has received from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility as part of the funds assigned to the PNRR.
The Intercity offer currently consists of 124 connections per day and more than 75 new stops for the summer of 2022. On the trains, passengers can also hear Italy in Intercity and choose from 400 original stories created by four travel podcasters who have the peninsula from North to South It is an example of Audio Augmented Reality, now freely accessible to all travelers in six different languages.
